The Weight

Samuel is torn from his daughter and sent to a brutal prison. There, Warden Clancy puts a proposition in front of him: smuggle gold out of a remote mine with a dangerous crew of prisoners, and he'll win his freedom. The tagline calls it a tale of good and evil, and the crime thriller runs on that bargain and on the men Samuel has to trust to see it through.

Ethan Hawke plays Samuel Murphy, with Julia Jones as Anna, Austin Amelio as Rankin, Avi Nash as Singh and Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen as Olson; Sam Hazeldine appears as Amis. Padraic McKinley directs; his earlier work includes Debris. The film runs 1h 55m and is rated R.
