Kidnapped: Elizabeth Smart

Kidnapped: Elizabeth Smart is a documentary about the abduction of Elizabeth Smart from her family's home in Utah when she was 14. Rather than relying on outside narration, the film lets her recount what happened in her own words and builds around never-before-seen material from the case, which makes it as much a testimony as a reconstruction.
Elizabeth Smart appears as herself, and the people at the centre of the case, Brian David Mitchell and Wanda Barzee, are present through archive footage, as are the broadcasters Soledad O'Brien and Katie Couric, who covered the story at the time. Some sequences are dramatised: John Stableforth portrays Brian David Mitchell and Steevan Glover plays a detective. Benedict Sanderson directs. The film runs 1h 31m and is rated R, a reflection of how directly it deals with the abuse she endured.
On IMDb the documentary holds 6.7 from 3717 votes, a solid reception for a true-crime feature built around a single survivor's account.
