Finding Joy

Roni Gingrich is a PTSD survivor trying to build a life as an artist, but something from her childhood refuses to stay buried. It surfaces as sleep paralysis and recurring dreams, and the film follows her as she pieces together what actually happened in her past. Finding Joy sits between drama and thriller, using the nights as much as the days to tell its story.

Valeri Bates both directs and plays Roni Gingrich, with Izabelle Jones as the young Roni. Around her are Jessi Burkette as Bonnie, Davis Lee DeRock Jr. as Kyle Murphy, Kurt Hanover as David Morris and Deborah Madick as Dr. Barbara Williams. The film runs a compact 1h 28m; no age rating is listed, though the subject matter of trauma and dream imagery points toward an adult audience.

It holds 7.4 on IMDb, but from just 8 votes, so treat that number as a first impression rather than a consensus. Kinopoisk has not scored it.
