Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall
This animated feature opens the Batman: Knightfall Collection, so there is no earlier chapter to catch up on. Arkham Asylum has been destroyed and every inmate is now loose in Gotham City. Batman races to recapture his most dangerous enemies one after another, and the effort pushes him to his physical and mental limits, all while a new threat, the man called Bane, waits for the final confrontation.
Anson Mount voices Batman / Bruce Wayne, Michael Mando is Bane, Pablo Schreiber plays Azrael / Jean-Paul Valley, Bruce Boxleitner is Commissioner Jim Gordon and Jessica Camacho voices Renee Montoya. Jeff Wamester directs; his earlier animated work includes Justice Society: World War II. The film runs 1h 19m and is rated R, so it leans harder than most superhero animation. Action, crime and science fiction elements are wrapped around a drama about how much punishment one man can absorb before something gives.
