Bitter Christmas
In 2025 Spain, a celebrated film director is stuck on a screenplay. The film she is trying to write is autofictional and set in 2004 Spain: its heroine is a failed movie director turned maker of commercials who suffers a panic attack, takes a forced break in the Canary Islands and, once there, starts work on a new film. The tagline, "You’re confusing fiction with reality," is both a warning and a description of the structure. It is a drama with comic edges.
Leonardo Sbaraglia plays Raúl Durán, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón is Mónica and Victoria Luengo is Patricia. Milena Smit appears as Natalia, Quim Gutiérrez as Santi and Rossy de Palma as Gabriela, with Carmen Machi as a doctor. Pedro Almodóvar directs; his earlier films include Pain and Glory and Volver. Runtime is 1h 52m, and no age rating is listed.
Kinopoisk viewers rate it 6.4, close to the IMDb figure of 6.5 from 3270 votes.
