The Big Fake
The Big Fake follows Toni Chichiarelli, who arrives in Rome wanting to be a painter and finds that his talent takes him somewhere else entirely. His hand is good enough to fool galleries, and before long it is fooling people with far more to lose. The film moves between the art world, the criminal underworld and the corridors of the state, tracing how one forger's signature ended up woven into the history of Italy itself.
Pietro Castellitto plays Toni, with Giulia Michelini as Donata, Andrea Arcangeli as Don Vittorio and Pierluigi Gigante as Fabione. Stefano Lodovichi directs; his previous work includes The Guest Room and The Trial. The film is rated R and runs 1h 50m, and it sits between crime thriller and period drama rather than committing to either.
IMDb users rate it 6.6 from 3021 votes, a mid-range score with a reasonably solid sample behind it. No Kinopoisk rating is on record.
