The Root of the Game
Trailer unavailableThe Root of the Game is a documentary series about várzea, the amateur, neighbourhood football that Brazil lives, breathes and exports to the rest of the world. Rather than star players and trophies, it goes looking for the stories behind the beautiful game at ground level, following people for whom a weekend match on a dirt pitch has the power to change a life.
The listing carries no director, no named participants, no episode runtime and no age rating, so what you have to go on is the subject itself. Episodes stand on their own as portraits, which makes it easy to sample one before committing to the whole series. It is a natural pick for football fans interested in where the style Brazil is known for comes from, and for viewers who like documentaries built around ordinary communities rather than famous faces.
IMDb users rate the series 5.6 from 83 votes; no Kinopoisk score has been recorded.
