British actress Jean Gillie met husband Jack Bernhard while he was stationed in Britain during the war. When they came to Hollywood, he produced and directed Decoy in May 1946 as a vehicle to showcase her talents to American audiences, while Gillie was simultaneously at work in The Macomber Affair (April-June 1946). However, the couple divorced the following year, and she returned to England, never again to appear in front of the motion picture cameras; she died three years later at the age of 33, allegedly as the result of pneumonia.
